History of the
Peninsula Camellia Society
|
- Founded in San Mateo, CA in 1961
- Incorporated as a non-profit in 1965
- Affiliated with the American Camellia Society and the Northern
California Camellia Council
- Service area reaches from San Francisco to Los Altos with members
living as far away as Salinas and Sacramento
- Camellia Flower Shows which are free to the public have been held
annually since 1961
- Camellia Plant Auctions have been added as a fund raiser to support
community projects
- Monthly meetings with outside speakers have focused on topics such
as camellia care and culture, propagation techniques, exhibiting
blooms, and the use of camellias in garden design
- Since 1985 the Society has donated camellia plants to public gardens
throughout the Peninsula
- Among the first societies in the country to have a web site
